One thing research published in <em>Annals of Neurology<\/em> has found is that COVID-19 affects the nervous system and can cause a number of neurological symptoms, including dizziness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1002\/ana.25807\" title=\"COVID \u201019: A Global Threat to the Nervous System\n | Wiley Online Library\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The authors<\/a> report that, \u201cInitially thought to be restricted to the respiratory system, we now understand that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID\u201019) also involves multiple other organs, including the central and peripheral nervous system. The number of recognized neurologic manifestations of SARS\u2010CoV\u20102 infection is rapidly accumulating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Symptoms of COVID-19<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/large-iStock-1019539142-full-1280x853.jpg\" alt=\"Man puts his hand to his forehead and leans on a pole while experiencing dizziness\" class=\"wp-image-1926\" width=\"230\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/large-iStock-1019539142-full-1280x853.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/large-iStock-1019539142-full-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/large-iStock-1019539142-full-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/large-iStock-1019539142-full.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The CDC reports the following symptoms for COVID-19, although it is not meant to be an exhaustive list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Fever\/chills<\/li><li>Cough<\/li><li>Shortness of breath\/difficulty breathing<\/li><li>Fatigue<\/li><li>Muscle\/body aches<\/li><li>Headache<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/nose\/loss-of-smell\/\">Loss of taste\/smell<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/throat\/\">Sore throat<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/nose\/nasal-congestion\/\">Congestion\/runny nose<\/a><\/li><li>Nausea\/vomiting<\/li><li>Diarrhea<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Loss of taste and smell are considered neurological symptoms, according to the recent research; others researchers have associated with coronavirus include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Difficulty concentrating<\/li><li>Seizures<\/li><li>Strokes<\/li><li>Weakness<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/ear\/bppv\/\">Dizziness<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The authors note that those infected may experience these neurological symptoms before more common symptoms like fever, cough and respiratory issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if My Only Symptom Is Dizziness?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are feeling dizzy, that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean you need to rush off to get a COVID test. You should first ask yourself whether or not feeling dizzy is unusual for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re prone to dizzy spells, especially when dehydrated or after standing up quickly, you probably don\u2019t need to worry, as long as you have no other symptoms. Dizziness is a symptom of several different <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/ear\/\">ear conditions<\/a>. You should take care to drink plenty of fluids and evaluate whether symptoms persist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheri Dewan, M.S., M.D., neurosurgeon at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital suggests, \u201cIf symptoms have dramatically changed in caliber\u2014meaning frequency, length, occurring at different times of the day, trying normal treatments without resolve\u2014then you should contact a physician, for imaging may be needed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allen Towfigh, M.D., medical director of New York Neurology &amp; Sleep Medicine also reports that \u201cDizziness caused by COVID-19 will likely be accompanied by other signs or symptoms to suggest a COVID-19 infection, such as fevers, respiratory illness, or cough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re experiencing ongoing dizziness and have ruled out COVID as the underlying cause, schedule an appointment with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.entofga.com\/\">local Otolaryngologist<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Coronavirus arrived to the U.S. in January, so there\u2019s a lot we don\u2019t know about it.
