He then attended Yale University School of Medicine, where he was one of 42 in the nation to receive the prestigious Howard Hughes Research Fellowship. He studied pediatric and adult otolaryngology\u2014head and neck surgery at the University of Miami\/Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he was Chief Resident. He completed his complex pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at the Children\u2019s Hospital of Philadelphia\/University of Pennsylvania, the No. 1 rated children\u2019s hospital in the world. He has continued his training through endoscopic ear surgery and minimally invasive ear surgery training at Harvard University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Whitley has privileges at Children\u2019s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and Northside Hospital as well as Northside Cherokee\/Towne Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside of medicine, Dr. Whitley enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons and playing various musical instruments, especially guitar and piano. He is one of the most experienced endoscopic ear surgeons in the Atlanta area and performed the first exoscopic pediatric cochlear implant in Atlanta. While at Harvard, he learned advanced minimally invasive endoscopic ear procedures such as endoscopic tympanoplasty, which often allows him to repair holes in the eardrum without any external incisions or scars. Most of his ear practice now focuses on minimally invasive approaches to cholesteatoma and repairing tympanic membrane perforations. These innovations result in less pain, faster healing, and almost always: no scar!
